Dr. Demento is one of the most popular and funniest Dee-Jays on the radio today. It's hard to believe that as of the year 2008, "The Doctor Demento Show" has been on the air for 38 years!! His first broadcast of the show aired in October of 1970 on radio station KPPC-FM in Pasadena, California.

Dr. Demento was born under the name of Barrett (Barry) Eugene Hansen on April 2, 1941 . By the age of 19, he was working at radio station KRRC-FM at Reed College. He graduated from UCLA with a master's degree in music in the late 1960s. By the year 1970, he had adopted the name "Doctor Demento" and had his own radio show specializing in novelty records and artists, songs you wouldn't hear anywhere else. In 1975, he released his first compilation album of novelty songs titled "Dr. Demento's Delights".

DR. DEMENTO - 2000

In 1978, Dr. Demento signed on with the Westwood One Radio Network for national syndication. That same year, Dr. Demento first heard someone who would become one of the biggest parody artists the world has ever heard of! That someone was none other than "Weird Al" Yankovic, who got his start on "The Dr. Demento Show"! The Doctor's show has also featured numerous notable guests over the years such as Frank Zappa, Mel Brooks,  Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Fireside Theater, Stan Freberg, George Carlin and Cheech & Chong.

In 2008, with the release of his latest CD "Hits From Outer Space", the mad doctor celebrates his 38th years of searching, finding, and playing some of the most nuttiest, zaniest records ever made on his radio show. And, as the Doctor is himself fond of saying "Don't forget to stay demented!!"
