The career of Stan Freberg spans over 50 years of show business,
from doing cartoon voices in the 1940s to his syndicated radio commentaries in the 1990s. He's made hundreds of hilarious
radio and television commercials. During the decade of the 1950s, he had more novelty record hits than any other artist. Stan Freberg was born in Los Angeles, California on August 7, 1926. His first hit was
his spoof of soap operas, "John And Marsha" in 1951. He lampooned everything from the TV cop show "Dragnet"
("St. George And The Dragonet" and "Little Red Riding Hood") to Harry Belafonte ("Banana Boat Song"),
to Lawrence Welk ("Wu'nerful, Wu'nerful"), to the vocal group The Platters ("The Great Pretender"),
even recording a side splitting parody of Elvis Presley ("Heartbreak Hotel"). He even recorded a sharp, right on
target indictment of the commercialism of Christmas ("Green Christmas"), which was considered to be rather controversial
when it was released in 1958.
Freberg's 1961 album, "Stan Freberg Presents The United
States Of America, Volume One", is considered by many to be his masterpiece. He recorded a sequel, "Stan Freberg
Presents The United States Of America, Volume Two" in 1996. His 1999 release, the "Tip Of The Freberg" box
set, contains all of his greatest material as well as a VHS videotape of all of the hilarious commercials that he's made
over the years. His latest release, "The Stan
Freberg Show - Volumes One And Two", feature broadcast recordings of his classic radio shows from the 1950s. Entering
his seventh decade in show business, Freberg is still active writing commercials and running his own syndicated radio commentary
show titled "Stan Freberg Here".
